How can a boxer punch without gloves and hand wraps without breaking or hurting their hand?

I heard to veritcal punch with no hook or overhand punches.





Then I look at bareknuckle boxing photos, they have their knuckles facing the ground.





I am confused!|||Punch without hand wraps, and you will damage your hand.
