i'm looking for more power so that i can land a knockout punch. i'm training in boxing so i want to be able to hit hard and land a devastating punch i.e. Mike Tyson type power. I have reasonably well sized legs and they grow well when i train them, and i know power comes from legs, but are there any exercises for the upper body that i can use to increase my punching power also.|||Some old boxing adages say "punchers are born." However I say that some of that is true and some of it isn't. You CAN increase power in your punches by improving on different things but for the guys with really devastating punching power they are normally born with that ability. For instance, you will never get power like Mike Tyson. Ever. Mike Tyson had his power because of the amazing physical body that God put him in which came equipped with tremendous balance, speed and strength. The best you can hope to do is improve your power to hurt your opponent more. You can do this by:
Doing core strength exercises like wood chopping motions.
Using good footwork to use leverage
Improving your accuracy
Increasing your speed
Improving your timing
Increasing the snap on your punch
Many KO punches aren't so much from power as they are from placement, speed and timing. Work on landing punches your opponent doesn't see coming and put your feet and torso behind the punch.|||I really do think if you start early enough then you could train to become a hard puncher or a boxer eg Thomas Hearns did not have a big knockout percentage in the amateurs but developed into a hard puncher as a professional as he improved his technique. I also read somewhere that Earnie Shavers used to hit a tyre around a tree with a clawhammer to improve his punching power.|||Pushups,Circle,Squeezes.
Shoulder Lifts.
